Internet Explorer 8
Export
- Open Internet Explorer
Click favorites
- Click the down arrow next to Add to favorites
- Click on Import and Export...
- A new window will pop up asking "How would you want to import or export your browser settings?" Click Export to a file, and then click next.
- Click to select the Favorites check box, and then click Next.
- Select the Favorites folder that you want to export. If you want to export all Favorite, select the top level Favorites folder (has a blue box around it in the picture). Otherwise, select the individual folder that you want to export and click next.
- By default, Internet Explorer creates a bookmark.htm file in your Documents folder. If you want to use a name other than Bookmark.htm, or if you want to store the exported Favorites in a folder other than the Documents folder, specify the new file and folder name and click Export. IMPORTANT (If you want to import this file into google chrome, you must name the file with a .html extension, so if you want to use the default bookmark.htm, just add a lowercase L to the end!)
- Click Finish
- As you can see the favorites are stored in the Bookmark.htm file in Documents
Chrome
How to Import your favorites into Google Chrome: If you would like to do this, there are two different methods. Method One will cover how to import a .html file, like the one that is shown how to create at the top of this page. Method Two will cover how to import favorites directly from the browser.
Method One (.html file)
- Click on the Customize and Control Google Chrome button.
- Click on Bookmarks then Bookmarks Manager or press shift+ctrl+o on your keyboard.
- This will bring you to the Bookmark Manager page. Click on Organize and then Import bookmarks from html file...
- Now you will need to select the .html file that you have saved previously or created earlier. If you are using the .html file that you created earlier in this guide, go to your documents and select it.
- This should create a folder named Imported in your bookmarks bar. Your favorites will be located inside of this folder.
Method Two (from browser)
- Click on the Customize and Control Google Chrome button.
- Click on Bookmarks then Import Bookmarks and Settings...
- This will Bring you to a new screen where you have the option to import settings from different browsers such as Internet Explorer and Firefox. Choose what you want to be imported and select import.
- Now your bookmarks and settings from your selected browser should be imported and you will be brought to a Success! screen.
